Sailboats hauled onto a dock beside the frozen Charles River with the Back Bay skyline at dusk

Boston Winters

The Charles freezes over and the boats come out of the water to sit on the dock all winter, hulls up, waiting on a thaw that is still months away. Back Bay lit up across the ice, and the river gone quiet in a way it never is in summer. Blue hour, and cold enough that I had the whole dock to myself. Five Boston winters, and this is the version of them I still miss.
